Have stayed here before. Husband was in school with Paul Pritchard in Ware Shoals, SC. Nostalgia with this 4 week stay (except was delayed 5 days by hurricane Debby). Yard could use some work, but good to have fence in back yard for dog walking. Lots of small ants in front yard. A strong pet odor hits you when you enter the house. There is not a back door so you have to exit a side door to get to the back yard. (That would be a nice disclosure for potential renters) The interior was very dated and gives the impression that the owners do the bare minimum with any fresh updates. The linens were fresh and clean- the house was tidy. We did not experience any issues with the utilities. The WiFi worked well. Just have a few points of improvement to suggest but was very happy for the price. 1-Ants and mosquitos were overly zealous at this hose particular. May need pest control. sidewalks were constantly covered with ants that would climb your legs given .5 seconds of a chance. The mosquitos were very specific to this property. taking our dog for walks the mosquitos would not bother you until you walked back on this property. so Im assuming the other properties had spraying done which we witnessed on a few house while there.
2- Wife had to deep clean a pot that had burnt on food on the bottom. the large boiler pot had significant burnt areas that took some time to remove.
3- drainage/water runoff by side door sunroom was directed along the back door almost overflowing into the house. may need some drainage adjustment on that area.
4- there is a rinse shower in the backyard, great asset, however you have to access it from the side yard from the side of the driveway and walk across the dirt. so once you rinse off you have to walk back across the dirt to the concrete to get into the house with no hose connection to rinse feet or sandals off again. suggest running the piping down to the little storage fence area behind the picnic area and putting shower in there for easier cleanup and rinsing. This house was extremely clean. The kitchen, bedrooms and living room were perfect. The bathroom is very small with no counter space at all. Nor is there a mirror (except a tiny one inside the medicine cabinet). The fenced in yard is the main reason we chose this place. However, it was very inconvenient as there is no easy access. You have to walk around the house to get to it. The outdoor shower is kind of pointless as you walk through dirt and sand to get to it. The ants are like nothing I've ever seen. I have lived and stayed in the south all of my 52 yrs of life and could not believe how bad they were. There was no spending any time outside. They even were biting our dog. We had to leave the property and just take him on walks around the neighborhood to get away from them. Thankfully none made it inside. The A/C unit made a horrible noise. The only time it stopped was when it wasn't running (which was hardly at all). It made it hard to hear the tv at times. Even though it still cooled, after a while, the noise was really grating on our nerves. Overall, the place was perfect for our needs. Just my husband and I and our dog for a few days. Don't know that I would want to stay there for a long period of time. I really don't like leaving any negative comments at all because it is a cute cottage and very clean. This property was almost exactly as described. The only surprise was that there is no access to the back yard from the house. You have to walk around the side of the house to get access. It had rained prior to our arrival so the paths to the yard was kinda muddy. It's a cute cottage with all maintained furnishings. It is only 1 block walk to the public beach access path. The street is quiet & not busy so no trouble getting into or out of driveway. There is a Harris Teeter grocery only about 2 miles up the road. We enjoyed a new restaurant, Islander 71 Beach House. It was very good. We went into Charleston Sunday. Only a short drive. Friday night's traffic was fine for us however, Saturday's traffic into the island for our friends was heavy. Sunday was no problem when going to Charleston. We'll be back & will definitely look into renting this home again. I also liked the coded entry. The house itself was immaculate and the location was amazing- however, there were ants everywhere outside to the point we could not be outside at all and when we checked in they were even coming inside at one point. We called the after hours line and let them know what was happening and they said that they couldn't do anything because it was not considered an emergency. We were pretty upset about it and ended up just going to buy ant spray to try to get it taken care of ourselves. The next day someone did come and spray for us, and the house itself was immaculate but we were just frustrated with the ants. The location was AMAZING and could not be beat! The house was stocked with everything we needed to cook, too. The ants were obviously out of anyone's control, it was just how the after hours company handled it that upset us. This was our first time to the low-country, and this home couldn't have been more conveniently located to the beach. It was about a 5 minute walk across the (unfortunately busy) street and down a walkway between the houses to reach the beach. We ate all our meals out except breakfast, the home had everything we needed for setting up a breakfast in the morning. As there were only two of us, the bathroom situation (one shared bathroom between the two bedrooms) was not an issue for us, but this could be an issue if there were more than two people. We appreciated the shower in the backyard to rinse off after returning from the beach. Having a washer/dryer in the house was wonderful, beach towels can be a mess. It was also convenient to get to Charleston from here, about a 30 min drive. For two of us, we would definitely rent this place again. We enjoyed "Acme Low Country Kitchen" restaurant (great seafood, She Crab soup is delicious), "Long Island Cafe" (for brunch, also great seafood), "Home Team BBQ" (on Sullivan's Island, great ribs, and we are from TX originally), and also went to the Charleston Crab House (downtown Charleston for a great crab boil). This spot was a perfect place for a quick getaway. It was just my husband and myself and found the place clean and comfy. Location can't be beat and there was plenty of places to store things. One other thing that we loved was that since it is an older home, there were no steps to navigate. Only issue was when we turned the dishwasher on the last day, there was a huge leak/issue and water was pouring onto the floor. I was able to call maintenance and they said they would respond, but since we were on our way out I can't comment on if the issue was fixed.
I would for sure stay here again, so nice you can bring your pup. There are two home also with construction. Noise was not an issue, but there were several delivery trucks parked on the side of the road and could make it hard to navigate in and out if you had multiple cars. This house was not only perfectly located - about a 5 minute walk to the beach. It was perfect for our family of 3, plus our dog. Everything has been updated, property was clean & easy to maintain on vacation. Central air was perfect as it was oppressively hot & humid. There is a new smart TV, which we were thrilled with. Our one recommendation is there is zero cabinet space for non perishables. We put everything on the counter or on top of the fridge. Not a big deal but would have liked more storage. Also, traffic is very heavy crossing the main road to get to the beach. Crosswalks are few & far between. The house was well maintained including clean fenced back yard and dog house. Once we figured how to operate the shower, water flow was good. It was nice being close to the beach to visit during the curfew. Although this property has the ability to sleep at least 6, the overall accommodations is best suited for 2. The bathroom which is shared between the 2 bedrooms is extremely small and is a challenge to use. The house was very clean and if you plan to just sleep there it works. There is a fenced in backyard for your dog but there is not access to it from the house. A guest needs to walk their pet around to it. The kitchen has minimal counter space and just the essentials. A guest should plan on bringing everything from napkins to salt and pepper. Our stay was off season which might explain the bare essentials, and it is not an easy place to cook in. The Island Realty staff was great, and took care of a few problems immediately upon contacting them. It is an acceptable property if you do not plan on spending much time in it and your number of guests is small. House is a basic JC Long house, perfect for a single or couple. This is very basic, no frills. This is a sweet little house about a block from the beach path. Everything was fantastic inside the house. It was very clean and it smelled really fresh when we walked in. The living room furniture was brand new, fully stocked kitchen, nice washer and dryer, and the beds were comfy. I slept like a baby. Other than the beach itself, sleeping is the only other thing I care about when I’m there Oh, and the best part is that it was ready early check in, so we were able to get in there and out in the beach about 4 hours earlier than we thought we would The location is amazing, you are across the road from the beach and only about 5 minutes from town. The beach isn’t crowded, that’s what I love about IOP. All in all this was the perfect gia getaway for the price. You really can’t beat it. If I had 1 complaint it would be that the shrub is growing over the sidewalk, but let’s be serious, who cares if you get smacked in the head with a leaf, you’re at the beach. There are way worse things to worry about. I did read several reviews complaining about the ants. Yes, there are ants, but again, no big deal unless you plan on laying down in the driveway. Ants are ants, they are a nuisance and hard to combat. Again, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things! Oh, and I don’t want to leave out the girls at check in/check out, they were super down to earth and sweet. We have great luck with island Realty. They’ve got the process down to an art! This stay was no exception. Smooth late checkin and the propert was clean and ready for us. This house has an amazing location for beach access - literally a half block to the access path. The house is quite simple, and the pictures show that well, so you won’t be surprised. This home is likely one of the originals built by J.C. Long, not typical of what is so common on the island today. While not possessing the latest and greatest,the home was up to date and we found it charming. It could use a little cosmetic TLC but everything needed was there and worked perfectly; the home was very clean and odorless; it was well furnished and very comfortable including the mattresses. The location is outstanding and the property managers were great. We couldn't have been more pleased with the property and experiencing a little bit of the old Isle of Palms was an added bonus. my husband,dog and I have rented from island realty many times. we usually stayed at 314 palm blvd. and were saddened that it was no longer available as a rental. my husband and I liked this property very much except for the bed which was too soft for me (I like a firm mattress). the neighborhood was wonderful to walk our dog with large live oak trees shading the road. beware though, it was easy to get lost in the maze of avenues! the walk to the beach was short just difficult to cross palm blvd at times with all the traffic.
